Style File: Ice Cream
We're getting ready to kick off Labor Day Weekend and if you're looking for a way to stay cool in this heat, there's no better treat than ice cream. But not just any old ice cream. 7's Belkys Nerey shows us where to find the cream of the crop in tonight's Style File.
WSVN -- It may be hot outside...
Sophie Dopico: "It's sooo hot, it hurts."
But the cool factor is definitely in play at Chill-n Nitrogen Ice Cream in Pinecrest.
Sophie Dopico: "This is where the customer gets to see the ice cream being made from scratch."
Just like a chemist lab they're putting on a scientific show with their ice cream here. They use liquid nitrogen to freeze their cream.
Sophie Dopico: "In its liquid form, it's extremely cold. It's negative 320 degrees and can freeze almost anything on contact."
The formula? You pick a base from any of their 11 flavors then in less 40 seconds they flash freeze your ice cream concoction.
Regina Lozano-Customer: "How they make it is really cool. The smoke coming out, it looks awesome."
But it's not just all smoke and mirrors, there is actually some science to making this ice cream taste really good.
Chuck Woodard-Co-owner, Chill-N: "The faster something freezes, the smaller the ice crystals. So right off the bat you have a much creamier product."
Regina Lozano-Customer: "This is honestly the best ice cream I've ever had. You have to have the Nutella and you have to have the Biscotti."
For the scoop on unique flavors, head to the new Quarterman's Ice Cream Parlor in Downtown Miami.
Madai Girard-Quarterman's Ice Cream Parlor: "We have things like Snick-a-licious, which is a frozen Snicker taste. Qe have Mexican hot chocolate, which has cayenne and cinnamon."
Ana Alvarez-Customer: "I love the red velvet. It's creamy. It has chunks of red velvet.
Spring for a hot fudge sundae a beautiful ice cream cake or their popular ice cream sandwiches.
Madai Girard-Quarterman's Ice Cream Parlor: "We use pound cake as our sandwich, so it's moist, it has that buttery taste. We will make them out of any of the flavors we have."
Their guava cheesecake sandwiches are a customer favorite.
Tanya Alonso-Customer: "We work right around the corner. This has official become our ice cream break."
We might be melting outside but ice cream sure takes us to a cooler, happy place.
P.S. If you work Downtown, Quarterman's will deliver your ice cream for orders $10 and up.
