Family dinners, shopping sprees, cool temperatures -- the holidays are definitely here. But as we all know, if you want to deck the halls, you have to first make sure you're all decked out. In tonight' style file, forget plastic ornaments. We're going to show you how to spruce up the season with sophistication.
WSVN -- Trees, lights, color. It all brightens the season and a little creativity can take your style from ho-ho-hum to ho-ho-hot.
The best place to start is with the biggest eye catcher -- your holiday tree.
Karen Cohen: "Everybody loves driving around looking inside houses and seeing people's Christmas trees glowing."
The one at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami shines with a South Florida feel.
Karen Cohen: "Go with a lot of turquoises that you see in Miami Beach and the old 1940's Miami buildings."
It's decked out in bold colored ornaments.
Karen Cohen: "The ornaments being in all shapes and sizes really adds to the tree."
And for extra sparkle the lights are wrapped inside the tree -- and on the branches.
If space is limited -- this metal tree may be the right fit -- just add some creative ribbons and shapes to give it a holiday flare.
Karen Cohen: "You can take that out every year and it's a modern simple look."
And no christmas is complete without the spirit of giving. And giving gifts means wrapping them first.
At paper concept in coral gables -- they use papers from all over the world such as batiks from the Phillipines and embroidered sheets from Egypt.
Giselle Marzo Segura: "Some papers are impactful by the shimmer in it. Maybe some other papers are impactful by the way that the print is on the paper."
Make a paper ribbon and mix and match different colors to maximize the package.
Giselle Marzo Segura: "You should definitely think about who is that you are giving a gift to."
And if at all possible try to add a special touch by personalizing it.
Giselle Marzo Segura: "Spend most of your time in selecting something that's going to make an impression and have a good impact."
As an added bonus at the Four Seasons, they customize christmas trees for hotel guests and residents staying during the holidays.
