Most of us think sugar and we think candy. But now, there is a hair removal process for men called sugaring. In tonight's Style File, Belkys Nerey learned most guys find the technique painless and the results... Sweet.
WSVN--Whether it's legs, eyebrows, or the dreaded bikini area, waxing is a painful chore most women go through.
But now more than ever men are jumping into the hair-removing bandwagon.
Clara Martinez: "A lot of men have a lot of problems with the amount of hair that they have. They are afraid of the pain."
And even Cargo magazine editor Matt Trainor says this folicle removing frenzy is growing among men.
Matt Trainor: "Especially in areas like Florida, where you are at the beach a lot."
But forget the art of shaving, tweezing, or waxing, sugaring is by far the sweetest way to get rid of unwanted hair.
This centuries-old process consists of removing the hair right from the root with a balled up piece of room temperature dough.
In the dough: just a little bit of sugar, lemon and water.
Clara Martinez: "Is a process that's better than any other technique because it helps with not only is it removal of hair but it's also skincare."
Once all the hair is removed the sugaring process is completed with a tonic moisturizer and cleanser to smooth out and exfoliate the skin.
Clara Martinez: "Is a lot less painful and it can become permanent if you do the treatments correctly."
Dan Volpe was brave enough to give sugaring a try on his chest.
Dan Volpe: "I feel hairless, there's a little pain involved I am not gonna lie to you there."
But will he back for seconds?
Dan Volpe: "Yeah I would definitely get this done again, in comparison to waxing, I think it's a lot better."
Who knew 3 simple ingredients equals one age old method of hair removal. But the experts say whatever you do don't try this at home.
Belkys Nerey: "Many salons in south Florida now offer sugaring. Prices range from 10 to 70 dollars, depending on the treatment. For more information, log on to our website at wsvn.com. In the newsplex, Belkys Nerey Seven News."
