It's sensual and exotic and it's sweeping America. Bellydancing and Middle Eastern music have just about everybody shaking their hips.
And rappers use the traditional sounds and costumes in their music...
Bellydancing and Middle Eastern music are quickly becoming part of the American scene.
Tamalyn Dellal, Mideastern Dance Exchange, says "To be proud of being a woman and to really express it and to have so much fun when you do it and get excercise I think it's just very contagious..."
The moves are hip but so are the beats. And now the best bellydancing teachers in the country, like Tamalyn Dellal, have chosen their favorites
For a new compilation CD called Bellydance Superstars.
It's produced by Miles Copeland the same guy who brought us the Sting Hit Desert Rose...
"They can expect great music really really up very danceable music that they can play at their parties or music that will make them really want to learn to belly dance...."
Did someone say learn to bellydance ---
At the Mid Eastern Dance Exchange they talked me into it and next thing I knew I was in full gear in the front of the class
"Ready....no of course I'm not ready...."
Ready or not I was bellydancing --- it was fun and I got into it...
Ansuya, Belly Dancer, says "I think that Shakira has helped and Britney Spears have all taken an interest now in belly dancing because alot of the moves can be drawn into what they're doing very nicely becuase now in the music world the sounds are evolving so much to include other countries sounds..."
All I can say is look out Shakira.
Yeah right who am I kidding....
That was fun...the belly dancing superstars CD is in stores.
