All Woman to Woman

Many women can't get enough of handbags. But when it comes to yours -- do you carry everything in it -- hoping to someday use it? 7's Beatriz Canals with how to clear the clutter -- in tonight's Woman To Woman.

(WSVN) -- Big or small we love them all-- but while beautiful on the outside... the inside can be frightening.

"We have a tendency to carry a lot of extra things we don't need," says Chris Welch of Pursenickity. She says women constantly carry clutter.

To prove her point-- Chris and I decided to visit the offices of H-B-A Insurance in Doral -- to surprise some of the ladies.

"Surprise! Do you happen to have your purse with you?"

One by one we inspected their purses...

Starting with Elaine Brown. Not so bad... and apparently neither is her breath.

"Oh, please, don't be shy," says Beatriz and Elaine laughs. "Good breath."

"You have three. Here one is sufficient."

"Do you use checks a lot?" asks Chris.

"No, I use credit cards," replies Elaine.

"You may want to leave this at home," says Chris, "so this doesn't get lost or taken as well."

After dumping her bag... we found Dolly Cardona "digs" her organizer-- a little too much.

"See what happens; you can lose a lot of this," says Chris.

Old movie stubs?

"Oh, my, July 19th," remarks Beatriz. "So you went to the movies. Was it a special movie?"

"No, I can't even remember," replies Dolly.

"So no reason to keep it, toss it."

Now to Karen Dacres -- and concern over precious pictures tossed in her bag.

"You'd be very concerned if maybe the perfume fell on here," points out Chris. "The photos would be ruined."

Chris' solution? A small photo album.

"That way you can keep them all together," says Chris. "They won't get ruined."

And then there's Gwen Collins-Jones.

"You have your work cut out for you," she says.

No kidding... Gwen had five wallets... two check books... two make-up bags... crunched up crackers... a whole bag of cough drops and talk about long lasting gum.

"Take maybe just a few cough drops," Advises Chris. "Leave it on your desk in the office."

About the lipsticks...

"So many lipsticks you won't be using," offers Beatriz. "Place it in this smaller, lighter bag."

Other tips to ensure a tidy purse.

Chose a bag with lighter color fabrics on the inside making it easier for you to find things.

Try sample size make-ups and lotions.

And, as I would learn... Oh, yes, even I wasn't spared this time.

Easily accessible pockets make it helpful to find items.

"Happy?" asks Beatriz.

"Yeah," answers Gwen.

It seems the most common problem we found were receipts that pile up in your purse.

Chris recommends taking a few minutes each evening to clear out the ones you don't need and file the ones you do.
