All Woman to Woman

Remember your first love? Many people will say -- who doesn't? Tonight -- we're getting to the heart of the matter -- revealing why the first stays with us forever.

(WSVN) -- Whether it was in grade school, high school or college, we all seem to remember our first love.

Beatriz asks, "Do you remember your first love?"

Donna says, "First love, when I was in high school, junior high."

Valerie says, "My first love was 14, he was a hansom guy."

Karla says, "It was just so exciting. He's gone. He's in Arizona. He's got a wife and children. Oh no."

Amazing huh, so many years later and we still remember our first love.

In fact, I bet if you closed your eyes right now, you could picture exactly what he looks like.

Well exactly what he looked like back then.

Well some women don't have to close their eyes to envision their first loves.

They see them most every day.

Women... like Martha Porro... she and her husband willie are first loves. They met when they were just 16 years-old at a high school dance.

For Willie it was love at first sight...

He says, "A slow song started and then she turned around and there she was. I knew I was going to marry her the day that I met her."

For Martha, love wasn't quite as instant...

She says, "To be honest with you, my parents had had a very bad divorce, so I was very you know, afraid. But God sent me a good one....he was the guy, always the guy."

The high school sweethearts dated for 11 years, then after finishing school and graduate school, they walked down the aisle.

And while their love story is not necessarily the norm... Relationship Expert Helenne Deutscher -- says first love is always special because its "first".

Helenne says, "Because we haven't got any scars. We haven't got any emotional scars, and we go in and we're fully open to the experience and we're fully present."

But for it to work, the couple needs to be compatible.

Helenne adds, "If you can get someone that's at the same place, willing to grow together, then you will have lasting first love and that is a gift."

Martha and Willie cherish their gift every day.

Today, two children and 18 years of marriage later, they are still lovers and best friends.

Martha says, "We love our kids, and he's a great father."

Willie says, "We enjoy being together as a family.I see ourselves later on having grandkids hopefully and traveling."

If your first love didn't last long-- you're not alone.

According to one survey, relationships at the age of 15 last on average just three to four months.
