All Woman to Woman

Are you always doing something for someone else? Your family? Your friends? Your co-workers? Well, in tonight's Woman To Woman report, Beatriz Canals is introducing us to two women who are going above and beyond to help others.

(WSVN) -- "When people ask me what I do," says Karen Morrissey, "I just put shoes on children's feet, and it's the greatest thing.

Karen is obsessed with shoes.

No, not Manolo Blahniks, but Barbie and Bob the Builder.

The Fort Lauderdale woman left a six-figure salary behind and used her severance pay to start a non-profit group called Shoes for the Soul.

"I really couldn't believe it," she says. "In our society, in this day and age, something as simple as a pair of shoes was the greatest need of a child."

With the occasional help of volunteers and social workers, Karen gives out new shoes to needy children.

In fact, she has given out more than 5-thousand pairs since she started last may.

"I know that I'm living my purpose," she says.

You can find extraordinary women just about anywhere, including at the hair salon.

That's where we met up with one woman, who cut off her hair to pay tribute to a friend with cancer.

"What I did was something I did lovingly to honor someone who does so much for others, " says Carmen Corvos-Roig.

Carmen had long hair ever since she can remember.

But last month, she decided to cut off her long locks and donate them in honor of co-worker, Meghan Huffman, who was diagnosed with cancer just three months into her pregnancy.

"The only thing in the course of this trauma, was the issue of her hair, when she lost her hair. She had to go out and get a wig," Carmen says.

"Having had long hair my whole life," she continues. "I thought, wouldn't it be great to let my hair grow, donate it to Locks of Love."

Locks of Love turns the donations into hairpieces for children suffering from illness such as cancer and alopecia.

"Hair's hair, it's no big deal, and I wish more people would do this," Carmen says.

That's because both Carmen and Karen don't see their actions as remarkable.

For them, it just feels right.

Karen says, "For a woman, when you find what you're all about and you know in your spirit who you are and where you come from and why you're here, it's amazing."

Shoes for the Soul is in need of help... from volunteers and in contributions. For information on how to donate, see our links below.

And, by the way, Meghan, who was diagnosed with cancer last year, is in remission.
