In the movies... In magazines, South Florida is known for its spectacular scenery, fun nightlife and beautiful people... But with so much beauty, why do singles say it's so hard to find that special someone? Tonight we're talking Woman To Woman about dating and where to go to find Mr. Right.
As down and dirty as a battlefield.
But the war we're talking about isn't overseas, it's right here in South Florida -- singles call it the dating war.
"It's so difficult nowadays to really go out and meet somebody," says Maria Caram.
And if you ask both sexes why it's so hard to hook up, many women say...
"Most men just want to have fun and not a lot of women are willing to give it up that easy," says Gloria Alfonso, "so it's a problem."
And what do the guys think about the girls?
"They expect too much these days," says Ernie Diaz. "Go out to a bar, have a good time, talk to them, but I think they want more than that. They're looking at bank accounts, what you drive and things like that ... Oh, they care about that, I have two sisters, trust me."
Now there's no doubt you'll find a lot of men at nightclubs and bars like this one but speak to most single women, and they'll tell you this is not necessarily the best place to find Mr. Right.
Forget the usual... Why not look for love on the ninth hole or at least on the driving range?
Here at the Doral Golf Resort and Club, there are always plenty of men playing golf, and not to mention, not a lot of female competition.
"It's a great opportunity," says Carrie Ruiz, "You're out in the sunshine, and normally everybody's in a great mood, it's a great place to meet somebody."
If golf's not your game, try your hand at speed dating.
"It's very efficient if nothing else, you can meet a lot of people in a short period of time," says Vince Gelormine.
Six minutes to be exact... to ask questions and decide if you've made a match.
At pre-dating.com, they even divide speed daters into similar age groups, religions, or racial or ethnic backgrounds.
"It's quick, it's painless," says Vicky Vazquez with a laugh, "and you're able to meet 13 to 15 guys in one night."
"You go straight to the point," says Annabelle. "You actually get to meet people that you actually want to get to know."
And ladies, if all else fails...
"I think what we need to do is either pray or move out of town, move out of Miami because it's not happening here," says Gloria Alfonso.
And the number one spot, according to one expert, to meet a mate, is the workplace.
Some singles also swear by the gym...
Book stores...
Coffee shops...
And grocery stores... to meet the right man.
