US futures mixed ahead of jobs, housing data
NEW YORK (AP) -- U.S. stock futures are mixed ahead of the latest housing and jobs data.
Dow Jones industrial average futures are up 4 points to 12,767. Standard & Poor's 500 futures are rising half a point to 1,351.20 and Nasdaq futures have given up 0.75 points to 2,616.50.
Economists expect that the number of people applying for U.S. unemployment benefits fell last week, but not enough to suggest that hiring picked up this month. They see the Labor Department reporting that weekly applications dropped by 6,000 to a seasonally adjusted 380,000.
When the number falls below 375,000, it suggests hiring is strong enough to reduce the unemployment rate.
And the National Association of Realtors is expected to report that sales of previously occupied homes likely slipped a bit in May.
