Wyclef Jean brings 'Purpose' book tour to Miami
MIAMI (AP) -- Hip-hop star Wyclef Jean is bringing his book tour to Miami.
Jean's memoir "Purpose" was published earlier this month. He's scheduled to discuss the book and perform Friday night at Miami Dade College.
The book focuses on Jean's childhood in Haiti and his development as a musician after immigrating to the U.S. That musical development included an extramarital affair with fellow Fugee Lauryn Hill. Jean says Hill's first pregnancy largely contributed to the Fugees' breakup, because Hill had led him to believe the child was his.
Jean has been dogged by criticism of financial improprieties as his Yele Haiti Foundation. In his book, the singer dismisses the problems at Yele as complications of a small charity's sudden growth after the 2010 earthquake in his Caribbean homeland.
