"Pain & Gain" premiere hits South Beach
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- The Rock, Mark Wahlberg and all the stars of "Pain & Gain" heated up the red carpet on South Beach, Thursday.
The big budget blockbuster was filmed right here in our own backyard last year, and now, the stars return for the rock-solid premiere. "The movie is a bit of a love letter to the city itself," said Wahlberg. "Miami is an essential character in the movie, and we try to stay as authentic and realistic to the story as possible."
The action-comedy is a true story about a couple of bodybuilders in the 90s, who were hoping to make some extra cash, kidnap a wealthy couple but then things get out of control. "You try to cut up bodies with a chainsaw and it doesn't work, and you go to return it. It's bizarre how true it is. It just makes it funny," said Director Michael Bay.
However, the victim's relatives have been critical of the film's comedic take on the real life events.
Also starring in the film is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Ed Harris, who ate when he wasn't acting. "I had some really great Cuban food," said Harris.
And, actor Tony Shalhoub who said he can handle Miami's heat. "It's a little toasty, but there's a good level of excitement," said Shalhoub.
"Pain & Gain" opens in theaters everywhere on April 26.
