Madai hits music scene as Pitbull's newest protégé

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Pitbull's newest protégé is repping our hometown as a rising star featured in a hit music video.
Madai; a singer, songwriter and South Florida native, is sizzling the stage with Pitbull on the theme song for the new Men in Black III movie.
But Madai's not just a video vixen. "A fun young girl. Like I always say from Miami, that is a singer-songwriter and just wants to let the world know who she is and basically know a little bit more about me through my songs that I write," she said.
As Pitbull's newest protégé, Madai hopes a little face time with Mr. 305 will blast her career out of this world. "I think it's pretty amazing and for me being part of the music video," she said. It opens doors for other people to know who I am, kind of want to know who I am and see this local girl from Miami just coming out of the woodwork and doing my music thing."
No matter where her star may take her, Madai wants people to know she's as Cuban as pastelitos and as Miami as, well, pastelitos. "Well I'm Cuban. I was born in Guantanamo came at the age of eight about to turn 9 years old," she said. "I say I'm grown up in Miami because this whole culture has made me who I am, having so many people from different parts of the world you learn from everybody."
With her big debut in the Men in Black III theme song, Madai had nothing but nice things to say about a certain "Will" guy who knows a thing or two about Miami and made an appearance on the video set. "Will passed by, yeah. He was very nice, very down to earth, very respectful," she said. "I mean, I'm a fan ever since he did the Fresh Prince of Bel Air so to me it was a deal meeting him. It was great. He's a great guy."
Here in Miami, where things are done "Big Willie Style," some people may think the new songstress is too different. But Madai doesn't see that as a bad thing. "I think that's always good to be different you don't want be just like everybody else. people always tell me who do you want to be like and I always say I don't want to be like nobody else I want to be Madai and I want people to love me and kinda like understand who this personna is."
