Officer under investigation after fatal shooting

MIAMI (WSVN) -- A rookie police officer is under fire after fatally shooting a South Florida man during a traffic stop.

Now, police are giving the public a glimpse of the officer's time on the force.

Officer Joseph Marin's police personnel file is virtually empty. He has been on the streets for less than three months, and the only paperwork on the rookie cop are two signed pages that he complied with sexual harassment and workplace violence seminars.

But violence is exactly what residents of Overtown are accusing officer Marin of doing. On Monday, Marin shot and killed Decarlos Moore during a traffic stop.

Tuesday night, outraged community members joined together and demanded answers from police brass and city leaders.

A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday night, just steps from where 36-year-old Moore died. "It comforted us. It's not going to bring him back. It's not going to wipe away all of the tears, but it'll make us feel better," said Yachica Moore.

Family members are distraught over the killing and members of the community are angry. "His mom wants peace, that's what she wants. She don't want no violence, nothing like that," Rosetta Norris said.

There are now two investigations linked to this shooting, an administrative investigation and a criminal investigation. Officer Marin has not yet given a statement to police. He is expected to do so through his attorney.

Reverend Jesse Jackson met with Moore's family on Friday at the scene of the shooting.
