MIRAMAR, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have taken a man allegedly involved in a domestic disturbance into custody after he barricaded himself inside a house.

An argument between a husband and wife escalated into a SWAT situation at around 2 p.m., at 2934 West Missionwood Circle, Thursday afternoon. For some time, no one was being allowed in or out of the community.

According to Miramar Police, Dexter Marach, 45, was inside the home with his wife and their five children. One of their teenage sons tried to intervene, but allegedly ended up cut superficially with scissors by his father. The wife and the three oldest children were able to get out of the home safely, leaving Marach barricaded inside with his 5-year-old and 2-year-old daughters.

Three hours into the stand-off, Marach finally surrendered and was taken into custody.

Witnesses said the situation was scary. "My wife had just called me on the phone, and apparently about 15 officers had just gone into the home, where apparently they didn't have to break the door down, but they were invited into the place with their weapons drawn," John Mogan said.

The 45-year-old is facing several charges, including aggravated battery. Marach also had several outstanding warrants.

The wife and kids are OK.
