OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have a full-blown murder mystery on their hands after some friends made a gruesome discovery inside a South Florida home.

Broward Sheriff's Office homicide detectives said somebody killed Alfred McMurray, 31, at his home at 1386 NE 34th Street, sometime Monday.

Some friends of his discovered McMurray's lifeless body at around 11:45 Monday night inside the home he rented with his partner and notified authorities. Police were on the scene all day Tuesday but have not revealed many details about their investigation. "I can say that it was a brutal, tragic killing," said BSO spokesperson Dani Moschella. "It was a violent killing."

Police are still working on who murdered this man and why. "We're looking for a killer. That's all I can tell you," said BSO Sergeant Glenn Bukata, earlier Tuesday morning. "I have no idea as to race, gender at this point."

Police later found the victim's silver 2006 Toyota Tacoma abandoned in a parking lot in Lauderhill. Police said it was stolen from McMurray's driveway after he was murdered.

Doug Warner the owner of the home McMurray rented with his roommate, Shannon Prewit, who is in St. Louis on business, learned about his tenant's death from the media. "They were a very nice couple," he said. "They just paid their rent yesterday. It just freaks you out when you own the house, and you want to find out what's going on."

From Greensboro, North Carolina, June McMurray, the victim's mother, said this about her son: "He has a very good heart. He would do anything for anybody. He was brought up in a good Christian home, and I'm very proud of him."

If you have any information on this murder or have seen McMurray's vehicle, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
