6 hospitalized after car crashes into deli

TAMARAC, Fla. (WSVN) -- Several people have been injured after a car crashed into a deli.
Broward Sheriff's Office deputies and fire rescue reported to the scene at the Point Shopping Plaza located near McNabb and Nob Hill Roads, not long after noon Wednesday to find the Toyota all the way inside Noshers Deli. "She meant to put the car in reverse. The car was in drive, and she just floored it and went full into the restaurant and drove over a bunch of people," said Charlie Adelson, the owner of the restaurant.
As many as six customers were hurt and taken to the hospital, but all were released by the end of the afternoon. "There was flying glass everywhere," said Adelson. "There were people screaming, there were people running, tables were run over."
Shirley Dipietro was among those injured. She said she flew as a result of the crash. "I felt myself going, so I tried to grab the table but the table went already cause I leaned against it, and I was flat on my back."
Dipietro wound up luckier than another woman next to her who found herself pinned under the car. Store employees came to her rescue and cut her out with a kitchen knife. "We helped pull a lady out form underneath the vehicle that was trapped and actually had her purse wrapped around her neck," said Adelson.
The 79-year-old woman accused of causing the crash was not hurt and refused to comment. It remains unknown whether she will face any charges.
The deli currently has a window boarded up and had to close for the rest of the day for cleanup. Deli owners expect to have their establishment re-opened by Tuesday morning.
