Mother hopeful for son after drive-by shooting

MIAMI (WSVN) -- The mother of a 12-year-old boy still hospitalized after he took a bullet to the head more than a month ago said she is seeing signs of hope for his recovery.

"He still has the ability to hear us, he knows we're around," said Stephanie Moore about her son, Dharmaniyah Moore, who remains at Jackson Memorial Hospital six weeks after he was shot in Miami Gardens.

Though Moore said her son is showing progress, responding to her and other family, doctors are not as hopeful. The pre-teen has remained in the hospitalized in intensive care since the shooting. "He's moving his legs a little, and his head is going side to side, so he's getting better," Moore said.

Back in July, Moore said, someone inside a car opened fire on them while they were inside the family car, near the intersection of Northwest 186th Street and 17th Avenue in Miami Gardens. A bullet would strike the boy in the face. She had this to say to the shooter, who remains at large: "I know you have children. I know you have a mother, you have a father, you may have sisters and brothers, and if you can do this, and it does not bother your heart, something is terribly wrong with you, but I pray to God that you will come forth."

Now, Moore hopes to see her son transferred to a rehabilitation center. In the meantime, the boy's family members take turns spending every moment with him in the intensive care unit at JMH. Meanwhile, whoever did this to him is still at large. If you have information that can help bring this person to justice, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
