Broken water main floods neighborhood

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Officials have issued a boil-water order after a broken water main flooded streets and homes.

Officials said the 12-inch water main line ruptured Friday morning, forcing crews to shut off the water and issue a precautionary boil-water order. The effected areas are on Biscayne Boulevard from Northeast 23th Street to Northeast 25th Street and on Northeast 24th Street, from Biscayne Boulevard to the Bay.

Several residents in that area have been flooded out of their homes. One woman said, at one point, close to a foot of standing water was inside her home. "I'm worried. It's not a lot, but it's all I have," said Norma Hoffman of her personal belongings.

One resident returned from work to find his apartment flooded. "It is pretty much flooded, about four or five inches of water. I got some furniture damage, clothing damage, probably some electrical," said Julio Mora.

By the end of the afternoon, water had been restored to most of the homes, but the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department will be testing the water and will notify all residents and businesses when the tests show the water is safe once again.
