Police investigate alleged abuse at hospital
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- The Miami-Dade Police Department is currently investigating an alleged act of impropriety conducted by a hospital employee towards a patient.
According to the sister of the victim, the victim recently underwent surgery at North Shore Medical Center and was in bed recovering when she was inappropriately touched by a nurse's aide. "I received a frantic call from my sister, who-- allegedly, someone, I don't know what this young man did, who works here at North Shore, but he apparently placed his hands where he shouldn't have on her," said the patient's sister, who did not want to be identified.
The young woman said this should serve as a warning to anyone with a loved one in the hospital. "Only thing I can say to families: please visit your family as often as you can if they're in the hospital because the medical staff there are good and there are also bad people."
North Shore Medical Center released a statement that read in part: "A patient has alleged inappropriate conduct by a nurse's aide at North Shore. We take such allegations very seriously. We immediately notified the Miami-Dade Police Department about the allegation and launched an internal review. The safety and security of our patients is paramount. We will continue to cooperate fully with the investigation into this matter."
Authorities continue to investigate the allegations.
