SOUTHWEST RANCHES, Fla. (WSVN) -- A lightning bolt struck the roof of a South Florida home Monday night.

The Goldstein family was enjoying a barbecue on Labor Day when their house was struck by a bolt of lightning.

The bolt destroyed part of the home's roof. Fortunately, fire crews arrived within minutes, and no one was injured. "Heard a loud crack, tiles flew off the roof. Went out to inspect after seeing that and saw the roof on fire," said David Goldstein. "Looked like a fire drill around here, everyone's grabbing ladders and hoses, climbed up on roof with the garden hose and fortunately we were able to put the fire out."

Meanwhile, heavy rain hit parts of Miami. Flooding forced motorists to drive slowly and proceed with caution, as they maneuvered through Brickell Avenue and Coral Way.

A 7News viewer sent in a photo capturing the Julia Tuttle Causeway at the height of last night's lightning storms.

A lightning bolt also struck over Biscayne Bay. Images of lightning were captured from a camera on top of the 7News studios.

The bolts of lightning came fast and frequent for hours.
