Worker dies after crashing mower in canal

LAUDERHILL, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are investigating the death of a maintenance worker after he crashed his lawnmower into a canal behind an apartment complex.

"I said a prayer right away. He's a real good man," said a resident about the 36-year-old man.

Lauderhill Police confirmed that the victim died at Florida Medical Center, Tuesday afternoon.

Police reported that the maintenance worker was driving a commercial lawn mower when somehow he ended up in a canal behind the apartments at 4311 NW 16 St.

Police said the victim was pinned under the mower under water. Divers were called out to the scene to rescue the victim. Once they freed him, rescue crews transported him to the hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced dead.
