MIAMI (WSVN) -- A man confessed to murdering two men after he was arrested for burglary.

Miami-Dade Police arrested 21-year-old Matthew Guzman, who was charged with two counts of first degree murder.

According to police, Guzman shot and killed 46-year-old Paul Barrow, the co-owner of Devonaire Service and Tire Center near 112th Street and Southwest 122nd Avenue.

Guzman also confessed to killing his neighbor, 64-year-old Harry Ray. Homicide detectives concluded that Guzman shot Ray several times and killed him about one month prior to murdering Barrow.

Guzman was originally arrested on Sunday in connection with an armed burglary. Detectives questioned him, and Guzman eventually confessed to murdering Barrow and Ray.

According to arrest affidavits, Guzman confessed to hunting down his victims, shooting and killing them because he thought they were gay and were coming onto him. The police report said, "His motive for committing the murder was due to his belief that the victim had homosexual tendencies. (The suspect) further stated that the victim had recently looked at him in an inappropriate manner of which (the suspect) felt was loaded with homosexual connotations, thus causing him to kill the victim. The subject confessed...eventually claiming that the victim made homosexual advances towards him, leaving him no choice but to shoot the victim."

Barrow's wife, Audree Barrow, still mourns her husband's death. "It's been extremely difficult, OK? I have three children," she said.

According to Audree, she will remember her husband "as the most perfect, amazing soul mate of life: father, business, everything."

"He said to me, 'I can fix everything but a broken heart,'" said Barrow's daughter, Stefani, of her father.

Audree was enraged at the senseless murder of her husband, who was found dead inside his business on Dec. 16. "Paul was no way in hell anything homosexual. Let's just clarify that right now," she said.

As for Guzman, Audree said, "This kid was crazy. I just want to know what makes your mind think in this manner? His family was not at the bond hearing. We were there, but his family was nowhere to be found, so they obviously know he's pretty sick. It's disgusting."

Guzman is being held without bond at the Miami-Dade County Jail.
