Couple dead after murder-suicide
SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Miami-Dade Police are investigating a murder-suicide that occurred inside a South Florida home.
The murder-suicide reportedly involved a couple in their 60s at the home on Southwest 139th Circle Avenue East, just before 7 p.m. Sunday. Police said Luis Yrigoyen, and his wife, Mireya, were found dead inside the home.
"Right now it appears they were a married couple, and the husband killed the wife before turning the gun on himself," said Miami-Dade Police Lieutenant Rosanna Cordero-Stutz.
Other relatives were in the home at the time of the fatal shooting but were in a separate room, police said. Authorities are now questioning those relatives.
"They were an older couple in the 60s. They had their children there, and I think their grandchildren lived there as well," said neighbor Ory Dawes.
Neighbors nearby said they often spotted the couple walking around the neighborhood and most of the time they appeared happy.
However, on Sunday night, neighbors said, a different scene played out. "Neighbors said they heard some screaming and fighting and then the shots," said Dawes. "Actually the children, which are the adults, they were downstairs watching the game, and they were in the bedroom."
No one else in the house was injured.
Several streets in the area were closed as the investigation unfolded.
Miami-Dade investigators have not disclosed what led to the argument.
