POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida man who barricaded himself in his home after allegedly firing at police and holding up a convenience store at gunpoint has been arrested.

According to authorities, the armed subject opened fire on police Wednesday night, at 11:15, as he exited the 7-Eleven along McNabb Road and Powerline Road. "Our deputy heard a call of shots fired," said Broward Sheriff's Office spokesperson Veda Coleman-Wright.

BSO said the 27-year-old gunman was armed with two handguns and shot at a Fort Lauderdale police officer and a BSO deputy. "He was probably 100 feet from the suspect, when the suspect fired a shot at him," said Coleman-Wright.

The suspect fled westbound in a Lincoln Towncar about 10 blocks away to the Windward Lakes Condominiums, at 4055 W. McNab Road, where he later barricaded himself.

Cindy Clark lives in the same complex and came face to face with the armed subject, who lives right above her unit. "He said nothing, he just walked really slow, with a blank stare on his face," she said.

Fort Lauderdale Police, BSO deputies and the SWAT Team surrounded the complex.

After several hours, BSO SWAT Team gassed the subject's apartment and took him into custody at 4 a.m., Thursday.

No officers were injured.

The subject is expected to face a number of charges, including firing at a police officer.

Fort Lauderdale Police is now the lead agency on the case.
