Nearby shooting prompts school lock down

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (WSVN) -- A shooting near an elementary school prompted authorities to place the school on lock down.

Homestead Police responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in the area of 250 SW 14 Ave., Thursday morning.

As a result of the shooting, authorities placed West Homestead Elementary School on lockdown. No one at the school was injured.

According to authorities, a man in his mid-20s was shot numerous times and had to be airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The gunman remains on the loose.

Authorities continue to investigate.
