Police arrest 2 for alleged staged robbery

SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are calling a drug store robbery last week an inside job.
It did not take investigators long to put two and two together, and when they did, they said, the evidence was clear, thanks to some surveillance video and confessions from the accused.
The robbery occurred at 24-hour CVS, last Wednesday, at 6 a.m., while customers were in the store. On the video, the suspect walks in wearing a red hoodie and motions to the clerk. He then tells the clerk he has a gun.
Sunny Isles Beach Police said, they became suspicious when the suspect demanded four gift cards with $500 on each card, which are traceable. The clerk even handed the gunman a receipt. Police recognized the suspect, tracked him down and shortly thereafter found out the clerk was in on it, as well.
Sunny Isles Beach Police Corporal Brian Schnell explained. "Once confronted with the evidence, he admitted to the crime," he said about the alleged robber, "and then he said the clerk was involved, and they were able to pin that together through text messages where the clerk was demanding his share of the take, and then when he was confronted with the evidence, he also confessed to the crime."
Police have since arrested both men.
