Parkland, Fla. (WSVN) -- A local teen takes steps in a walk-a-thon months after suffering major injuries from an amusement park accident.

Teagan Marti took nearly two dozen steps, surrounded by family and friends at the Margaux's Miracle Walk in the Park in Parkland, Sunday.

"I was just so glad, all the people here have not seen how far she's come," said Julie Marti, Teagan's mother.

Just over one year ago, during a family vacation in Wisconsin, the teenager fell 140 feet at an amusement park. Instead of falling into a safety net, Teagan hit the ground.

After surviving the fall and beating the odds of paralysis, Teagan has come a long way in her rehab.

"It's like, what a difference. Here she is walking with her walker and at that point she was lying in her bed barely moving," said Carol Anderson, Teagan's grandmother.

The Wilgus family, who are supporters of Teagan, made the trip all the way from where the accident happened to see her walk.

"We've done a few fundraisers for her in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and we just feel so blessed to be here today," said a Wilgus family member.

Everyone from her family to her attorney is thrilled to see Teagan's progress.

"It's a reason to believe in God," said Stuart Grossman, Chair of Margaux's Miracle Foundation. "You have no idea what a sick little girl she was."

Now that Teagan is walking, she is beginning a new journey in her life.

"A year ago she couldn't walk she couldn't do anything like this, so for her to be here today is such a blessing," said Marti.
