Pedestrian killed while crossing I-95

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A family is mourning the loss of their loved one who was struck and killed while trying to cross a busy highway.
The fatal accident occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Broward Boulevard, at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Anelus Arre of Miami was going to meet his cousin, who had cash to give him before he left for his trip to Haiti on Friday. However, Arre's cousin's van broke down on southbound I-95.
Arre parked on the opposite side of the highway. He walked through the high-speed traffic to get to his cousin, but he was struck and killed. "Too many cars were coming, and he still crossed," Arre's cousin cried.
"This is a shock to me, this is a shock to me, and I cannot believe that. My true cousin, my true cousin is dead today!" said another cousin of the victim, through tears.
The victim's wife arrived at the scene and was extremely emotional over the loss of her husband. Other relatives of the victim could not believe their loved one is gone. Arre's cousin, Abraham Auguste said, "He was a loving man. He always makes you smile, makes you laugh, so he's a great person."
The driver who struck and killed Arre remained at the scene.
Broward Sheriff's Office units were forced to shut down traffic in the area because of the fatal crash.
