Wheelchair basketball team plays first game

SUNRISE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Members of a unique South Florida basketball team made their dream to play and compete a reality.
The Sunrise Suns wheelchair basketball team competed for the first time, Saturday.
Among the team members are a Vietnam War veteran and a woman battling Spina Bifida. "It's extremely important to the handicapped community because it's their opportunity to have something of their own," said a team member.
Supporters inspired by the team cheered them on at their first game. "Everyone that has come out to see these guys and gals practice, to see what they can do, the courage and dedication, has walked away inspired," said Sunrise Mayor Mike Ryan.
The Suns became a member of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association in August.
