Turkey Point power plant hires thousands of temps

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida power plant and the local economy is getting a major surge in upgrades.
Mayor Carlos Gimenez visited employees at FPL's Turkey Point nuclear power plant Wednesday.
FPL hired 5,000 temporary workers to upgrade the facility enhancements that will generate a 15 percent increase of clean, safe and reliable electricity production. "I'm generally supportive of nuclear power," said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez. "I think it reduces our carbon footprint. I think it's proven to be very safe in the United States, but it will also add thousands of new jobs here in this local economy and very, very good paying jobs."
FPL has said the increased workforce will also generate approximately $11 million "more per month" for Miami-Dade's economy.
