Police search for gunman in fatal shooting

LAUDERHILL, Fla. (WSVN) -- Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting of a young man on a bicycle that occurred in a South Florida neighborhood.

Gunshots rang out around 9:45 a.m. Saturday morning along Northwest 55th Avenue in Lauderhill.

Several bullets struck a young male, who was riding his bicycle in the area. The victim was forced to the ground by the gunfire and lay on the street struggling to survive. "He didn't say anything, just gasping for air, trying to breathe," said neighbor Fabian Chambers. "Seeing somebody get shot, dying right in front of your face is hard."

Friends and neighbors ran outside after hearing the commotion. "I see my friend crying down the street and then I was just looking around crazy," said Jakia Robinson, a neighbor.

Rescue crews transported the victim to Broward General Medical Center, where he later died.

The name of the victim has not been released.

According to friends, the bicycle is what defined the victim in the neighborhood. "He didn't go around starting trouble, he would just go around riding his bike and I've never seen him say nothing to anyone," said Tikeyah, a neighbor and friend of the victim.

Neighbors tried to make sense of the fatality while surrounding the crime scene. "Just over non-sense, probably he owed money or didn't owe money or didn't pay," said neighbor Nathanael Janvier. "I can never find a place where gunshots won't be my alarm clock."

Friends of the victim say a previous argument may have triggered the shooting. "The other day he said they got in an argument. The person that got shot, he said they got in an argument," said Tikeyah.

Witnesses say they saw someone running away from the scene shortly after the shooting. The gunman remains at large.
