Officer finds man shot in chest near canal
MIAMI (WSVN) -- A family is searching for answers after their loved one was found shot in the chest a few feet away from his vehicle.
According to the brother of 41-year-old Frank Granda, Granda was shot at point-blank range in the chest as he was on his way to work at around 2 a.m., Wednesday.
Granda's family said a Medley police officer who was patrolling the industrial area of Northwest 106th Street and 98th Court found Granda's pickup truck parked on the side of the road near a guardrail. The doors of Granda's trucks were wide open, and the vehicle's engine was still running, his family said.
The victim's family said the officer then found Granda's body, with one gunshot wound to the chest, just a few feet away from his vehicle, lying near a canal. Granda's brother, Manuel Granda, said, "[The officer] found my brother close to the canal."
Granda was found just blocks away from his car transport company, his family said, and he was supposed to drive to a car auction when the shooting occurred. "He was getting ready to go to Orlando to the auction to pick up some cars and stuff," said Manuel Granda, "so that's routine for him at that time to be there, going to the yard, to pick up the truck and go."
Miami-Dade Rescue crews lifted the victim's body over the guardrail and airlifted him to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he remains.
Granda's family said they have no idea who the gunman could be. "He's the only one that knows what happened, so we're waiting for him to get better, because I know my brother, and he's a good man, he's a working man. No enemies, a lot of friends. You can tell that this room is filled with his friends, so we don't know who's capable of doing this to him," said Manuel Granda.
According to the victim's family, Medley Police are still investigating and are trying to find a suspect and a motive in the shooting.
