MIRAMAR, Fla. (WSVN) -- Authorities are searching for a teenage girl who went missing two days ago.

High school student Naketa Leiba was last seen on Wednesday, walking home from her bus stop near Southwest 34th Street, in front of AC Perry Elementary School, but police said she never made it home.

Her mother said she believes there may be something ominous going on, as she called her just after getting off her school bus, asking her to come and pick her up. "My daughter is not a runaway," Sharon Leiba said tearfully, making a plea during a radio show. "She would not runaway from home, so please, please, if you have any information or if you have my child, please let my baby go."

The last time anyone heard from her was 3:33 in the afternoon, Wednesday, when she called her mother after she stepped off the bus bringing her from South Broward High School. Geneva Palmer rides the same bus Leiba takes. "I didn't see her get off because we go in opposite directions," she said. "It kind of scares me because I have to walk home some days, and that just makes me feel unsafe."

Miramar Police waited at the stop Friday afternoon to question passengers who might have seen anything.

Adding to the fears of Leiba's parents, who took to the airwaves on WAVS, Friday afternoon, are memories that their daughter had complained about a man who tried to pick her up last school year, along the usual route she walks home. "I was trying to be positive, but today is the first time that I break down," said Father Michael Leiba. "I've been trying to be strong, but it's just like I can't take it."

"One of us has to be," added the mother, "because I ended up in the hospital yesterday to calm me down."

Saturday, at 10 a.m., family, friends and concerned citizens will gather in front of AC Perry Elementary School to walk Leiba's route to distribute flyers.

Anyone with information on Leiba's whereabouts is urged to call police or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
