Student hospitalized after school stabbing

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. (WSVN) -- A high school student is in the hospital after he was attacked and stabbed during a fight at school.
The stabbing occurred inside a hallway at Barbara Goleman Senior High School just after noon, Tuesday.
According to school officials, three students got into an altercation just after lunch, when one of the students pulled out a small Swiss Army pocket knife with a two-inch blade and stabbed a second student multiple times in his arm and back.
The stabbing occurred in a stairwell behind the school's main building, school officials said. "I was coming down the hallway, and I saw him all full of blood. I thought it was paint at first, but it was all blood," a male student said.
"I called my mom as soon as I found out. There was blood all over the floor. There were kids running all over the place," said a female student. "It was bad."
School officials said the victim is a junior and the suspect is a senior at the high school.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue airlifted the injured student to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital as a precaution. He is considered to have non-life-threatening injuries, however, and the victim is expected to recover.
Upon hearing about the stabbing, parents whose children attend the Miami Lakes high school were concerned about their children's safety. "I think this is horrible. It's usually a really good school, not that I've heard of any problems. This is my son's first year at this school," said one parent, Elizabeth Munoz. "It's not like before, when it used to be safe. Right now, I think it's just a little more dangerous."
Police have not released the names of the students involved in the altercation, and it remains unknown if anyone will be charged in the stabbing. Miami-Dade Schools Police Chief Charles Hurley said, "Not going into a great degree of specificity, there are some unique circumstances surrounding this case that would suggest both of these participants have some degree of culpability here."
Authorities continue to investigate the stabbing, and are questioning the stabbing suspect. According to police, it is a felony to bring a weapon onto school grounds.
