Elderly woman evicted from home

MIAMI (WSVN) -- An elderly woman has nowhere to go after she was forced out of her foreclosed home.
Mercedes Robinson, 82, has called her Northwest Miami-Dade residence home for the past 45 years.
However, on Tuesday, Robinson said Miami-Dade Police changed the locks of her home and slapped a yellow eviction notice on her front door.
Robinson, who is wheelchair-bound, said her home has been foreclosed on. "Who's going to take care of my house?" Robinson asked. "Anybody can break down the door and steal whatever they want."
One year ago, 7News did a story on Robinson, who said her mortgage payments had ballooned from $740 a month to $2,800 per month. According to Robinson, a bank tricked her into refinancing the mortgage on her home. On Tuesday night, Robinson said, "I think they're wicked, I think they're wicked, and I think they're abominable because fraud is an abominable thing. Fraud is intentional deception."
Luis Valdeon, who fights for housing victims, filed motions to delay Robinson's eviction while she appealed her case.
Valdeon came to Robinson's house on Tuesday night to lend a helping hand once again. He offered to put the elderly woman in a hotel room for the night, but she refused, determined to stay outside her home with her son. "I said, 'Wait a minute. Let's do something about this,'" he said. "We came and brought her some pillows, we offered her money, but she doesn't want to leave from her house because the sheriff's department, the bank came and locked everything inside her house."
The 82-year-old explained why she turned down Valdeon's kind offer. "I'm concerned with my house, and I wouldn't want anyone to break in and take anything," said Robinson. "I want to also express my gratitude to [Luis]."
Robinson is now determined to lead the fight against what she calls corrupt banks. "Don't give up, don't give up. Fight these banks because many of them are dishonest. They're dishonest, they're thieves," she said.
Valdeon will come with a moving truck to Robinson's home to try to take Robinson's belongings out of her home.
