Tipsters help arrest suspect in teen's shooting

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Police said tipsters are to thank for the arrest of a suspected gunman who critically injured a teen as he walked home from school.
Thanks to tips from eyewitnesses, minutes after the shooting Friday, detectives arrested 18-year-old Terry Joseph Darling. He stands charged with one count of attempted first degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault.
According to City of Miami Police, witness statements lead them to Darling. Miami Police spokesperson Kenia Reyes said Darling shot at a group of teenagers at random. "In broad daylight, this man just decides, from inside his car, to start shooting at random teens."
According to police, Darling drove past a trio of teens, including 17-year-old Brandon Allen, in a green four-door Nissan Maxima. Witnesses said the vehicle then made a U-turn and drove back towards them, stopping at the corner. Darling, then, witnesses told police, extended his body out of the driver's side window and fired six shots across the roof of the vehicle at them before speeding away.
Police said, Allen was walking home from Miami Northwestern Senior High School with two other students, along 10th Avenue, near 62nd Street, Thursday afternoon. He took a bullet to the neck. None of the other people Allen was walking with were hit.
Friday evening, Allen continues to recover at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The teen has already been through two surgeries.
Marcus Allen, the victim's brother said his youngster brother is on the road to recovery. "He sat up. He was talking. They tried to tell him not to talk too much because he got a lot of swelling, and he's still opened up right here," he said pointing to the left side of his neck. "He's gonna come through."
Darling remains jailed without bond.
