MIAMI (WSVN) -- Police are investigating a shooting at a South Florida barber shop that left the shooter dead and his victim injured.

Police responded to the shooting inside a barber shop located along Northwest 35th Street and 17th Avenue in Miami, Sunday night.

According to police, a man pulled up to the barber shop on a motorcycle, went inside and opened fire on someone sitting in a chair.

The shop's owner said his friend was cutting the victim's hair when the shooter came in. "Seconds later, he goes in, and we hear shots. Three shots first and then five shots," said a witness. "And when I get there, there's one dark-skinned guy laying down on the floor and the other one in the bathroom with a shot to his neck."

Miami Police said the victim, who had a concealed weapons permit, fired back at the shooter with his own gun.

"They came in, and they walked in, and they fired at the couch, and the guy that got shot, shot back," said a neighborhood barber.

"Well, I heard from one of the barbers he actually got shot in the stomach about three times, and then he tried to get up, which the guy that was getting a haircut actually finished him off," said the witness.

More than one witness said, they saw the shooter searching the block on his motorcycle prior to the shooting. "The guy came, and they were looking for him at my shop, he came in looking to see. When he walked in there, he was looking to kill him. His head was already set on doing the bid," said the neighborhood barber.

Rescue crews rushed the victim to Ryder Trauma Center, where he is listed in critical condition.

Police said the shooter died while being transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown. "At this time, we don't know what's the motive or if they may have known each other or if there's something that may have led him to this barber shop," said Miami Police detective Keandra Simmons.

Those familiar with the area were not surprised gunfire was exchanged. "It's crazy, this is a regular thing around here," said the neighborhood barber.

Police continue to investigate.
