BOCA RATON, Fla. (WSVN) -- A local college student was captured on camera as she made a loud outburst in class, then attacked students and staff.

A Florida Atlantic University professor was holding a study session before a midterm on evolution, when the female student asked the professor a racially-charged question. Students said the topic of discussion was population extinction and that is when 24-year-old Jonatha Carr raised her hand and asked her professor, "How does evolution kill black people?" Students said the professor attempted to answer her question several times, but she continued to ask the very same question.

According to Carr's classmates, she was not happy with the teacher's answer and began to yell and threatened to kill the professor and fellow students. Christiana Jeukeng said, "Someone told me that they had a class before with her, in the morning, and she was just upset the whole time. She was turned facing the back of the class while the professor was talking, so she's been like this since the morning, apparently. So, I don't know what exactly triggered her reaction, but it was hard to watch. There's no excuse for that kind of behavior."

A few minutes into the outburst, the cell phone video showed the belligerent college student as she became violent toward a technician who walked into the classroom and tried to get the student to leave the classroom. The technician had to defend himself against the student and physically removed her from the class.

Another video showed campus police as they tried to calm the enraged student. Officers carried the student into the back of a squad car, then used a Taser to subdue her.

Tuesday night, FAU released the following statement: "In light of today's information, the Dean of Students is taking immediate action regarding this student."

According to FAU, after the student was arrested, she was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

Officials said Carr has been expelled from school.
