SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have arrested a suspected hit and run driver who allegedly killed a 13-year-old girl and left her father and older sister injured.

After setting up a perimeter Friday morning, Miami-Dade Police arrested 38-year-old Sanfor Guillen, a resident of Coral Gables. According to police, Guillen fled on foot after his sport utility vehicle clipped a minivan with a father and his two daughters inside.

Forty-seven-year-old Kirk Camacho was at the wheel on the minivan. His daughter, 16-year-old Breean, sat next to him in the front passenger seat and her little sister Kaely sat in the van's back seat. She died at Jackson Memorial Hospital after the SUV clipped the back of the minivan along US 1 and Southwest 184th Street, just after 5 a.m.

A witness who tried to help save the child was left heartbroken after hearing the news of her death. "As soon as they told me that she died it hurt me because I pulled her out," said German Pascual as he choked back tears.

Police said the minivan was traveling east on Southwest 184th Street, towards US 1, when a speeding black 2008 Range Rover Sport, illegally heading south in the bus lanes that run parallel to US 1, clipped the rear of the minivan. He crashed into the back part of the van, leaving debris and children's toys scattered across the roadway. A large chunk of the van was found about 100 feet from the wreckage.

The Range Rover came to a stop several feet south of the impact scene. "The driver at that point, whose been identified as Sanfor Guillen, fled on foot from the scene," said Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta. "A perimeter was established, and he was, shortly after, apprehended."

Witnesses stopped to help the passengers of the minivan. "When we got there, the girl was bleeding all over her head ," said Pascual, who works at a nearby gas station. "I imagine that she received the whole impact of the accident, and we helped the father take the girl out. We laid both of them down on the ground, next to the tree over there, and her father kept saying, 'Please don't leave, please don't leave me.'"

Kaely was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at JMH where doctors pronounced her dead at around 8 a.m. Her father and sister were treated at the hospital. The father was released but Breean needed ankle surgery and remains hospitalized.

The driver of the SUV was taken from the scene in an ambulance but is now in police custody. "We do know that speed is a factor," said Zabaleta. "This individual was driving on the busway, where he wasn't supposed to be, and investigators are looking at more facts, as the day goes by."

Guillen remains in police custody, as he continues to be questioned in this crash. Traffic homicide investigators stayed on the scene late into the afternoon. They had a mobile operation center there as they collected evidence. Guillen could face multiple charge including vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident. He has not been charged with anything at this point because the investigation remains on-going.
