PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida homeowner believes someone intentionally set a fire that damaged her home and killed her pet.

The fire sparked outside the home along Northwest 17th Street and 93rd Avenue, early Wednesday morning.

Joan Morales was inside with her dog at the time. "Apparently there must have been an accelerant because there's nothing else to catch a fire," she said. "There was no lightning, there was no lightning storm. Somebody had to have set the fire."

The flames scorched the front of the house and damaged the roof.

The owner's dog did not survive.
