Police arrest hit-and-run suspect in NY
SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have reported that they have nabbed a hit-and-run suspect wanted for putting a University of Miami student in the hospital.
Luis Moya was taken into police custody in New York more than a month after a hit-and-run crash with a pedestrian. According to investigators, Moya struck 19-year-old Eliza Gresh on April 27, along US 1, near Southwest 57th Avenue, in South Miami.
Last week Gresh was released from Kendall Regional Medical Center after she suffered head trauma and several broken bones in the crash.
The Gresh family felt relieved to hear news of the arrest. "It was a surprise and a good surprise," said the victim's father, Perry Gresh. "I'm happy he's caught because now we can move forward with the criminal issues against him."
Moya is expected to be extradited to Miami in a few weeks.
