SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A teenager is in the hospital after suffering a head injury caused by a spear gun.

Authorities responded to a reported freak accident in the area of the 5200 block of Southwest 139th Place in Southwest Miami-Dade Thursday, involving a 16-year-old male with a spear from a spear gun lodged in his head.

Off camera, a second teen involved in the incident said it was indeed an accident and occurred while the two were fishing. The 15-year-old boy told 7News the two were loading the spear gun when it suddenly fired.

Rescue crews airlifted the teen to Jackson Memorial Hospital. The spear could be seen sticking out of the teen's forehead in video of his arrival at the hospital.

The teen's condition is currently unknown.
