Dade Medical College opens new campus to public

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida college opened its doors to the community for the first time.

Dade Medical College's Miami Lakes campus held it's grand opening Saturday.

The college celebrated with the community highlighting 10 winners of full scholarships to the new college for allied health and nursing. "I have five boys, I have a husband, I have work, so I never got the opportunity to really go to school, continue my schooling," said Sonia Georges, a scholarship recipient. "I started and I never finished, so this is a good opportunity for me to actually do what I wanted to do and go for it and get into the higher level that I wanted to."

The college also donated $125,000 to the American Heart Association.
