Teen struck by spear gun undergoes surgery

MIAMI (WSVN) -- A teen is on the road to recovery after a freak accident.

The 16-year-old underwent a successful surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital, in which doctors removed an 18-inch spear that was lodged in his head.

Last week, the teen was injured while fishing with a friend at a lake along Southwest 52nd Street and 139th Place.

The teen's friend said the spear gun accidentally fired while he was loading it.
