SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida police officer had to be taken to the hospital after a morning pursuit ended with a crash.

According to Miami-Dade Police, the crash ended at the intersection of Southwest 87th Avenue and 56th Street, Tuesday morning.

Police said an officer attempted to stop the driver of a black BMW for an expired tag and warrant, in the area of Sunset Drive and Southwest 79th Court. When the officer got out of the vehicle and began to approach the suspect's car, he backed up and tried to run the officer over, police said.

The driver of the BMW then took off and slammed into a white van, which an officer was in. Police said the officer in the white van heard the chase on the radio and tried to block the road. The BMW then slammed into a red SUV before coming to a stop.

The officer in the van was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He is expected to be OK.

Miami-Dade Police have arrested Julio Andino. A dog found inside of the BMW was taken away from the scene by Animal Control.

Andino faces a slew of charges including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
