Tuition hikes on agenda
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Tuition hikes are at the top of the agenda for the board that decides policy for Florida's dozen public universities.
The members of the Board of Governors on Thursday are considering undergraduate tuition hikes of up to 15 percent for most of the schools in the state university system.
Only the University of Florida is asking for less -- a 9 percent hike.
Officials with the schools say the hikes are needed given that state lawmakers have cut funding by about $300 million.
Gov. Rick Scott is opposing the proposed tuition hikes.
