Accused Miramar Police captain out on bond

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A Miramar Police Captain has bonded out of jail after turning himself to face accusations of lewd and lascivious behavior with a minor.

Juan De Los Rios turned himself in at the Broward County Jail Friday morning, at 11:30. He is a 28-year veteran of the force and now faces two counts of sexual misconduct with a teenager.

Several hours after his arrest, the police captain posted the $30,000 bond and was released from the Broward County Jail.

This stems from an incident that occurred in January, according to the arrest affidavit. He found a 15-year-old girl and a 19-year-old boy in the back seat of a car in a parking lot near Southwest 26th Street in Miramar, in the middle of the afternoon.

The teen said Captain Rios approached the two in the parking lot and asked if they were having sex. According to court documents, "[Rios] then asked her to pull down her pants so he could check if they were having sex. The victim said she believed he was a police officer. Therefore out of fear, she pulled down her pants and her underwear."

The incident was reported to Miramar Police, and the teens identified the captain in a lineup.

If convicted, Rios could face 15 years in prison.
