FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida business owner is furious after his cat was viciously attacked by a dog and was left to die.

Wayne Spath has been taking care of his cat named Mama for the past 12 years. Mama lived outside his Fort Lauderdale bail bond business. "When we would come in, the cat would just come and see everyone and greet everyone in the office," said Spath.

The attack occurred on June 24, while Spath was out of town. He is now seeing what his security camera captured.

A man is seen on surveillance video walking his dog. Then, the dog is seen walking up toward the front door of Spath's business and viciously attacking the cat. "The cat was friendly. The cat wasn't afraid of anything," said Spath.

The man is seen trying to separate the animals, but is not successful. After the attack, the man and his dog just walk away, leaving the cat to die on the sidewalk.

Mama died from her injuries. Spath buried her outside his business.

Spath thinks Mama was lying down outside the front door of his business, when the dog and the owner walked up. It is unknown why the dog came up to the door or which pet initiated the fight. "You look at the video, and you form your own opinion," said Spath.

Spath is mainly angry, because Mama was not his pet, but belonged to his 7-year-old grandson who visits him often at the office. "Let me put it this way: It's a good thing I wasn't here or I didn't catch him," he said.

Spath has hired a private investigator to find the dog's owner and plans on suing him and take him to court.
