MIAMI (WSVN) -- Authorities are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a pedestrian.

The fatal crash occurred near North Miami Avenue and 79th Street, at around 5:18 a.m. Saturday.

The victim was attempting to cross 79th Street. Surveillance cameras captured the driver striking the pedestrian and driving away from the scene. The car never stopped.

Police have identified the victim as Carl Jones, a homeless man.

Jones is the ninth pedestrian killed by a motorist in Miami this week. Last Saturday, three pedestrians were struck and killed by a minivan, just outside Marlins Park. The driver of that minivan also died.

That same night, an accused drunk driver mowed down two church officials outside of Jumbos restaurant.

Miami Police continue to investigate. "Our investigation revealed that we may have a black-colored Pontiac or a black-colored vehicle with extensive front-end damage and with windshield damage," Miami Police Detective Joseph Kennedy said. "A word to the wise to the pedestrians out there: Please pay attention when you're crossing. Most of our fatalities this week have been pedestrians."

There were people who witnessed Saturday's fatal hit-and-run. If you are one of them, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
