Officer injured in highway crash

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida police officer had to be transported to the hospital after an early morning crash.

A Miami Gardens Police officer crashed his cruiser on the Palmetto Expressway at Northwest 37th Avenue, Tuesday morning. Traffic on the eastbound lanes were backed up for miles as fire rescue checked the officer out.

Officials said the officer suffered some unspecified injuries and had to be transported to the hospital.
